St.Mary's is a Norman Church which stands on the site of a saxon church. The original building has be added to over the centuries to the buildiing we see today. It has a bell tower with a peel of six bells. It also boast the original Norman door on thye north of the building. This door is no longer used and is reputed to still retain the original rivets. It is also claimed to be one of the oldest church doors in the country.
Unfortunately following a serious fire at the end of March 2011 the church building is still closed for extensive repairs. It is hoped that the church will be fully open by Easter 2012.
The decoration is well advanced and the pews are to be removed to allow repairs to walls and floors. The Church Council hve also had informal approval to provide in the longer term for the needs of those using the church in the future.
Meanwhile services are being held in Maiden Newton Village Hall, Station Road on most Sundays.
