St Edmund's and St Chad's

Welcome to the parish of Mansfield Woodhouse where we strive to bring God's heart to the the heart of the community.

St Edmund's Church stands on a busy crossroads at the heart of the lively 'village' of Mansfield Woodhouse, affectionately known by locals as 'Wudhus'.

St Chad's Church, 'the jewel of the Vale', lies in the secluded, peaceful setting of historic Pleasley Vale.

We recently welcomed Andrew Porter as our new vicar along with his wife Cathy, who is also ordained, and his family. We look to the future with great anticipation and excitement about what God has in store for us here in Mansfield Woodhouse!

Andrew is ably supported by our Licenced Lay Ministers, Kate and Andrew, and Churchwarden, Kate.

We delight in offering a warm and welcoming place for people to meet with God and each other. Whether you consider yourself to have no faith or are questioning, if you are new to faith or have been a Christian for a long time, we invite you to come and experience God’s love for you!

Holy Communion takes place on the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of the month at 10.00am.

On the 2nd Sunday of the month the church family plan and lead informal, interactive All-Age Praise services using the Roots materials as a valuable and inspiring resource. This service, also held at 10.00am, is accompanied by our small church band, CrossSection. BSL interpretation is available at this service.

Evening Prayer is held at 6.30pm on the 3rd Sunday of each month currently led by our Lay Readers.

When there is a 5th Sunday in the month a service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving takes place at 6.30pm to which all recently bereaved families are invited for a time of reflection and thanksgiving for those they have loved and lost.

The church is active in prayer and worship, supporting families through Life Event services: funerals, weddings and Baptisms.

We run a number of social justice projects which reach out to God's children in need and are very dear to our heart of the church family:

The church charity shop, The Partnershop, situated on the High Street but close to the church sells good quality second hand clothes and bric-a-brac and is well known locally for good value for money and a listening ear. Profits are donated to local, national and international causes.

The Stable Centre Coffee Shop is open weekday mornings from 9.00am - 1.15pm serving excellent quality food at reasonable prices and has become a lifeline particularly for the lonely and elderly of the community.

Sherwood Forest Foodbank under the banner of the Trussell Trust runs from the stockroom at the back of the Stable Centre and is another lifeline, especially in the current economic crisis, for the wider community.

The facilities of the Turner Community Hall are hired out throughout the week to local groups. Please contact the Parish Office for more information on availability and current hire charges.

Regular services are sadly no longer held at St Chad's Church but it is available for Life Event services and retreat days. Seasonal services such as Stations of the Cross, Patronal Sunday and Christmas are still celebrated in the tranquility of this beautiful, unique church.
