South of Sixty – A Winter in Antarctica – Illustrated talk – Saturday 21 October - NVH
Discover what it was like living and working on the coldest, windiest, highest and driest continent on Earth by coming to an illustrated talk on Saturday, 21 October at New Victory Hall at 7.30 pm (doors open 7.00 pm). Rose Buckley (née Drew), who grew up in Barton Turf, and Chris Buckley spent 16 months working for the British Antarctic Survey. Rose was the base doctor and Chris worked as a radar engineer and meteorologist. Tickets cost £8.00 and will be available from the White House Stores from the beginning of October – nibbles will be provided and there will be a licensed bar. The event is being organised by the Friends of St Peter’s and all profits will be given to the Church’s fabric fund. Do come along and hear about this awe-inspiring, virtually uninhabited, ice-covered part of the world.
