St John’s Mission Statement

St John’s Church is a welcoming Christian community for all, inspired by the love of God, growing together in faith, sharing the good news of Jesus by serving others through words and actions.

The Parish of St John the Baptist, celebrating 175 years of service.

The parish of St John's takes in the South side of Newport and extends into the neighbouring countryside, as far as Blackwater and Whitecroft. St John's is part of the Church of England, and comes under the West Wight Deanery, in the Diocese of Portsmouth. St John's is one of the two parishes in the centre of Newport. It is a joint benefice with Sts Thomas, the church in the town centre.

Styles of worship

St John's is a church of the open evangelical tradition.
Worship varies between traditional and modern styles, quite often with a wide range within one service. We strive to be obedient to the Holy Spirit and to allow Him to work within our patterns of worship.

Caring for people

Part of our response to Jesus' love for us is caring for the needy. However, it is easy for needs to go unnoticed.

The PCC's Caring Committee would therefore like to know of anyone who is sick, housebound, bereaved or otherwise in need of some help and support.

If you are aware of anyone like this, or if you yourself would like someone to visit you, please contact us via the link at Who's Who at St John's.

Healing ministry

Prayer for healing is available at any service, but particularly during the main communion service, which is generally held twice a month at 9:30am. Members of the prayer ministry team can come to pray at your home for healing or for any other need.

This year we celebrate 175 years of service. Please join in our special events.
