Meet our people in mission around the world

September 2011 Update from David and Heather

Summer holidays are now coming to an end. We are thankful to God for the recreation and rest, now may we be more effective in working for Him. Today we have an extra opportunity for relaxation, as it is Idd el Fitr, the celebration at the end of Ramadhan. In Uganda it is a public holiday, many people have celebrations with their friends and families.

Our minds keep leaping forward with long to do lists for the next few months.

David will be involved with “Seeds of Love” project, helping 200 disadvantaged and poor families in the Diocese with seeds for planting in their farms. These are fast growing crops and they should be able to harvest by Christmas. This involves a lot of logistics and moving approx half a ton of seed to the families by the middle of September. Peter & James, David’s brother and nephew will be coming for 10days. We will probably put them to work moving seed bags! We will also plan some fun things together as well The Moringa trees have grown well. Heather has planned Moringa Nutrition and cookery days with women in 2 parishes

October also looks busy on the calendar, we are hosting 2 natural medicines facilitators from Europe and then we are going to the East African natural medicine conference in Eastern Uganda.

We have our African People in Mission conference in Nairobi (a first ). All the CMS mission partners, SALT partners, short term people, Timothy partners are all coming together for 5 days.

On our way back to Uganda we will be stopping in Kisumu, Kenya for a couple of days to help a community project with some teaching on fish farming and then to help them dig a fish pond.

Heather will go up to the Republic of South Sudan for 2 weeks to teach at the Bible School. This will be exciting as this will be our first to visit the newest country in the world. It will be interesting to see if the women from Nuba mountains and Abeyi are able to come.

We were reminded last weekend, it is good to plan and be organised but if you are always thinking about tomorrow you will miss out on the blessing of today. Jesus knew the dangers of worrying the future and missing the joys of today. He keeps warning us not to run ahead of Him, He wants to share the yoke and take the strain.

We love the words of the old hymn.

I’m following Jesus, one step at a time.

I live for the moment, in His love divine.

My spirit grows stronger, each moment each day.

For Jesus is leading, each step of the way.

May Jesus lead each of our steps each day over the months ahead.

Much love,

David and Heather
