Vicar's Letter September

Dear Friends “Am I a Christian?” “Non Angli sed Angeli, si forent Christiani.” These words came into my mind after the three lads who wandered into St Peter’s disappeared on their bikes. I was in the middle of a clear out, shifting chairs from the upper room, to the Rectory garage. You could see they were on a holiday mooch- eking out their freedom, but always on the edge of boredom. Here was the church open, and the vicar to entertain them. “Mister am I a Christian?” He’d been baptised, so he was. “Can we have a drink?” “Got any jobs?” Well as a matter of a fact I had. The three of them shifted the 80 chairs in no time, helped by a passing friend whose mum had sent him out to walk an enormous greyhound. When the job was done, I thanked them, they said, “That’s alright” and disappeared, with their bikes and the dog. Before he left, the leader, took out an old tin box, opened it and said “If I showed you these, you wouldn’t think we’d been out nicking tire caps would you- a Christian wouldn’t do that would they?” No I said, but a boy might. They were very posh tire caps, and I could see the attraction. So, if any of you lost one over the summer, please remember that the same boy who took them was probably the one that helped the old vicar move the chairs and that God welcomes us all into his Kingdom, and has job for all of us when it comes to building up the church. God bless you all Rev Mike Honnor
