St. Mary's church is adjacent to the site of the See's first Anglo-Saxon Cathedral (transferred to Thetford in 1071) and to the ruins of a Norman Bishop's Chapel. Within the church are late medeival pew ends and screen, a recently restored 1622 altar table and fragments of medieval glass. The imposing tower contains eight bells and attracts many groups of campanologists. The Rev. Nicholas Varnon was Instituted in 2006 as Rector of the new benefice of Elmham, Billingford, Bintree, Guist, Twyford and Worthing and lives in Elmham Rectory. At St. Mary's excellent music for services and weddings etc. is provided by organist Jonathan Dodd. The Elmham Festival is held annually over August Bank Holiday weekend featuring over thirty themed floral displays in the church and attracting many hundreds of visitors to the village.
