"Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again; rejoice!" Philippians 4 v4
Our Vision
St Mary's North Leigh is held in Plurality by the Vicar of the joint benefice of St Mary's Cogges and St James South Leigh. Our vision is to spread God's word, and share Jesus' love throughout the Plurality, beginning within our church, St. Mary's North Leigh, and reaching out into our community and beyond; an outward facing church.
Together we work to be an open and caring church that is a place of spiritual comfort, love and worship, where everyone can experience God's redeeming love and grace. We nurture those already on their journey of faith, and are there to encourage and support them as they respond to the ways in which God calls them to work. Our thriving ecumenical home groups continue to do this.
Reaching out to others is essential. We take God's word beyond the boundaries of the church building, showing a Christian response within our changing world. Playing our part within the Deanery and Diocese ensures we are informed and see the wider picture of God's plan in our area.
Different styles of worship and differing service times are used to reach diverse groups. Working with children is a high priority. Our close engagement with the C of E primary school, in the classroom and staff room, and with parents, has been very successful. Ongoing work with older children through the church sponsored youth project, in the purpose built modern youth centre, is challenging, as it has been difficult building a large enough support team. Afternoon events for baptism families, is also an important area for us. We aim to establish a committed Christian nucleus amongst our young families. Existing activities for other groups include prayer breakfasts, soup lunches, afternoon teas, prayer groups, home visits.
We are a community serious about prayer and bible study, people sharing a vision of a living, a growing church that joyfully welcomes everyone. People are at the heart of our church, a church that has for one thousand years been the focus of Christian celebrations and traditions, yet is ready to seize new opportunities for future development without losing touch with its history.
