Weddings

If you have any questions regarding weddings and baptisms, you are very welcome to visit the church office, each Thursday night between 7.00 and 7.30 pm. Please enter the church through the smaller door on the south side of the church.

Wedding Policy

Recent changes to the law have made it much easier to get married in St. Mary's church. If either of you has one of the following six connections with St. Mary's, there should not be a problem:

If one of you:

was baptised in the parish concerned or was prepared for confirmation in the parish or has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months;

or one of your parents, at any time after you were born:

has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months;

or one of your parents or grandparents:

was married in the parish;

If none of the above apply to either of you don't despair! It only means that one of you will have to 'regularly go to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months'. In practice that means that one of you will have to visit a service, at least once a month, over a period of six month before your wedding date.

So why not come to the church on a Thursday evening between 7 pm and 7.30 pm, to make a (provisional) booking? We can make bookings as far ahead as 2013. The 2011 fee for a wedding at St. Mary's is £570. This includes the fees for the officiating minister, the verger and the organist, as well as flowers and a video license. You can book the choir for an extra £60.

We advise you to provisionally book your venue first, and then come to church to book your wedding.

Closer to the time of your wedding you will be invited to a Wedding Preparation Event.

If you have been married before, the bishop's special permission is required. This means that you will have to be interviewed by the vicar. Please contact him if this applies to you.
