We have two churches in Withernsea within a mile of each other, and we are, to be blunt, broke. Therefore we tried an experiment in 2011 whereby St Nicholas's church (on Park Avenue) closed for January, February and March, and St Matthew's church (this church, called 'Owthorne' but in fact on the Hull Road here in Withernsea) closed for May, June and July. Needless to say, it was inconclusive! However, after much debate and with great sadness, we will be seeking to close St Nicholas's, and keep this church open. As a result, all Sunday services transfer here as from the end of April 2012, where you will be assured a warm welcome.
