Old Brampton
About our ParishOld Brampton is a large parish which originally extended from near Baslow to the 'Crooked Spire' parish in town. In 1832 St Thomas’ Church was built in the growing suburb of 'New' Brampton and took away the eastern and southern parts of the old parish. Old Brampton then became, once again, an entirely rural parish. In the second half of the 20th century, new estates at Holme Hall and Linacre Woods meant that Chesterfield expanded into the parish. These estates are now the largest population centres in the parish, the others being the villages of Cutthorpe and Wadshelf. The church, therefore, finds itself sited in the midst of a parish in which most of its people live around the periphery. This poses significant problems.
