Upper Wreake

About our Parish

The parish is a group of 6 rural communities consisting of Frisby on the Wreake; Kirby Bellars, Hoby; Rotherby; Brooksby and Ragdale to the south-west of Melton Mowbray.

Frisby is the largest and supports a C of E school, shop/post office, pre-school, village hall and public house.
Hoby and Kirby have active village communities with village halls and public houses and Rotherby and Ragdale are smaller communities where social activities are often associated with fund-raising for the church. Brooksby Church is in the grounds of Brooksby Hall (part of Brooksby Melton College)and is a popular location for weddings and blessings of civil marriage ceremonies.Brooksby Hall caters for wedding receptions and is licensed for civil marriages.

Since 2007 the parish has been part of the South Framland Cluster, a grouping of 3 benefices with 20 communities and 16 church buildings, served by two full-time and one part-time clergy.

The aim is to have a balance between weekly child friendly services held each Sunday at 10.30am, traditional services (weekly 8.30am BCP Holy Communion and a monthly Evensong) and other more informal services. Frisby Church hosts harvest, carol and leavers services for the village primary school service.

We work very closely with the Upper Wreake Methodist Church and hold a joint informal cafe-style service at 10.30 on the third Sunday of most months.

CYFA fulfils an important role in the life of our parish. It offers a place and space for young people to enjoy company, learn about Christian things and to develop as individuals who are valued and encouraged to be themselves.
CYFA caters for young people aged 9-14, and has a structure which involves games, refreshments, teaching and an opportunity for prayer. It meets in Frisby Methodist Centre every Thursday evening in term time.

At present we have three mid week fellowship groups (New Life Groups) meeting in members’ homes. They run on a Tuesday evening, a Wednesday evening and a Thursday afternoon. A time of bible study, worship and prayer provides an invaluable source of teaching, growth, fellowship, friendship and nurture. We support one another spiritually, practically and prayerfully in our walk with Christ and enjoy regular social events together.
