Barton Under Needwood

About our Parish

Barton-under-Needwood was originally a small farming community but with the addition of several housing developments since 1960 it has developed into a large village with a population of nearly 4,200. The village is situated in the Trent valley, on the eastern boundary of Staffordshire and in the western region of the National Forest. Barton is 7 miles north of Lichfield and 5 miles south of Burton upon Trent. Access by road is via the A38 and the B5016. The Trent & Mersey canal, to the east of the village, serves a large marina at Barton Turn. Most Barton residents have to travel to the surrounding large towns for employment and shopping as there is only a limited amount of either in the village. The Methodist and Catholic Churches in Barton cooperate closely with the Parish Church in ecumenical activities under the banner of "Barton Churches Together". Almost half the households in Barton subscribe to the Parish Magazine - The Barton Chime.
