Parish of St. Paul with St. Luke, Bow Common
About our ParishSt. Paul's, Bow Common sits at the junction of Burdett Rd., and St. Paul's Way and straddles the districts of Bow and Poplar in the east End of London.
The present church was built in 1960 and from the very beginning marked a radical movement in church architecture. St. Paul's has been called, 'The most significant post-War Church in Britain.'
It was the first centrally-planned parish church in Britain and was built by architect Robert Maguire and designer, Keith Murray.
There is a major mosaic cycle in the church - one of the largest in any British church - of the Heavenly Host. It is by artist Charles Lutyens and was created from 1963 - 1968.
