Christ the King in the Diocese of Newcastle
About our ParishThe Benefice of Christ the King (established in 1988) consists of the churches of Dinnington: St Matthew; Brunswick: St Cuthbert; Wideopen: St Columba and Brunton Park: St Aidan, in the most northerly part of the Newcastle Central Deanery. It is served by a Team Rector (also half time team leader of the Diocesan Youth Development Officers) at St Aidan’s, a Team Vicar at St Columba, and Team Vicar at St Cuthbert and St Matthew who is also chaplain to Northumbria Police Force.
The understanding of team ministry which is followed is of a non centralised kind. Each member of the team works separately in their own area of responsibility but seeks to share news and information, ideas and encouragement with other team members. Each District manages its day to day affairs through a District Church Council. A Parochial Church Council has overall responsibility for the team so that working together it can better serve the communities as it seek to build further God’s Kingdom. There is a clear sense of purpose in maintaining the identity and distinctiveness of the individual districts whilst co-operating and sharing experience and expertise in key areas.
