Kintbury with Avington

About our Parish

There has been a 'holy place' in Kintbury since 933 as it was then mentioned in a document. It was the scene of agricultural riots in 1831 andCassandra Austin was engaged to the vicar's son.

It was once the scene of much activity with whiting works, silk mill, canal, railway good yard. It also saw much activity in WW2 with many troops stationed araound, several POW camps in the vicinity and a searchlight headquarters at Barton Court.

The restored canal has brought many visitors into the village, the local trains stop here, horse drawn barge trips take place in summer. Kintbury has its own Doctor's surgery and dispensary, an excellent fish shop and bakery and unique pottery. There are local artists with a Gallery at Inkpen.

Population: 3000
