Parish of Holly Hall, part of the Dudley Team Ministry
About our ParishThis page includes a history of the local area and parish and a list of past clergy.
History of the Local Area
The parish serves three villages located between Dudley and Brierley Hill.
The first of these is Holly Hall. This village stretches along the Stourbridge Road and is centred on the crossroads by the church. This crossroads was an important junction in the past as it marked where the road from Dudley to the county town of Worcester began. This road dates from the 18th century. During the 19th and early 20th century most people worked in the glass industry, local collieries, ropeworks and ironworks. The earliest reference to Holly Hall is found in a subsidy roll in 1327 when it mentions a Stephen Holie living in the area. Holie is a medieval form of holly.
