St.Peter’s Church is a joint Anglican and Methodist local ecumenical partnership.
The mid-Victorian building, which seats about 140 people, was constructed of Hanham Stone, in the Gothic style. The main architect was Thomas Henry Wyatt, who was the nephew of Matthew Digby Wyatt – the designer of Temple Meads. The church consists of a wide nave with a high-pitched roof. On the north side is the original vestry and on the south side is the choir vestry that was a later addition and includes a toilet and the boiler room.
In 1973 the then Anglican Church joined with Trinity Methodist Church in Redwick as an ecumenical project – the first village in England.to do so. The Methodist church was converted into the church hall, which was subsequently sold in 2012.
The free community magazine “In View” is organised by the church and is printed locally.
The church runs a mobility charity, “Wheels at St. Peter’s” (WASP), which provides motorised scooters and wheelchairs for local residents, and also a luncheon club.
