St Peter, Racton with Lordington is a small 12th Century downland church with a seating capacity of about 60. It contains significant monuments to the Gounter family who owned Racton Manor opposite (now demolished). The parish consists of some 26 households and one private Nursing Home. In 2008 there were 29 on the Electoral Roll, of whom 10 did not reside in the parish.
All regular services use the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, with sung canticles at Mattins, which also draws in worshippers from outside the parish who prefer this form of worship. Music is played on a fine example of a French Alexandre Harmonium.
Services have an average congregation of 15 loyal worshippers, with numbers significantly increased at Easter, Harvest Festival, Carol Services, Christmas Day and Octagon services. The church is used for Baptisms, Weddings and Funeral Services as required.
Access to the church is via three steps from the car park, and is suitable for most of those with some mobility limitations, and the PCC try to accommodate everyone as far as is practicable. There is an audio loop system installed. Lifts to all services are offered to residents of the Nursing Home.
