We are a Local Ecumenical Partnership  (LEP) between the Church of England and the Methodist Church.  St Matthew's is one church family, worshipping and working together to the glory of God and his Son, Jesus Christ. We share one bread and wine in the Eucharist. We look to the working of the Holy Spirit amongst us in building up the kingdom of God. Our pattern of worship draws from the traditions of both our parent church bodies. Through Baptism new church members are recognised by both the Church of England and the Methodist Church. Confirmation is similarly recognised by both parent churches.

We look to our sponsoring body, the West Yorkshire Ecumenical Council (WYEC) for guidance. Our church is administered at the local level by our Ecumenical Church Council, which meets monthly on the first Wednesday of the month.

We also work closely with the Rastrick Group of Churches and Churches Together in Brighouse.

We have regular house groups and nurture groups as advertised, as well as seasonal ones for Lent.

Annually, we mark Battle of Britain Sunday and Remembrance Sunday which the local RAF Association attend.

For many years we have supported the work of Testimony Faith Homes in Eldoret Kenya. See the following link : http://testimonyfaithhomes.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=90&Itemid=87 for information about the Homes and the work of John Green. John and Esther spoke movingly about their life and work supporting outcast children in Eldoret on Sunday 29th May 2011. See the photo gallery.

Our Parish is linked with the Parish of Nyakiswa, in the Diocese of Mara in Tanzania. Information about the Wakefield / Mara link can be found on the Wakefield Diocese Mara Link page

We support CMS, the Church Mission Society through our Link Member, Liz Hosegood, a trained midwife, who is based at St Francis Hospital, Katete, Zambia.

The parish has an abundance of old persons' homes and schools which are visited regularly. Many of the schools visit the church for teaching sessions and for special events, such as carol services and thanks giving.

A Parent and Toddler Group meet every Thursday 9.30 - 11am in the Parish Centre.

The men of the church meet with the men of St John's church in a local pub on the first Friday in the month for "Beer and Banter".

The ladies socialise on the fourth or fifth Tuesday each month and usually have a speaker. The meeting  takes place in the Parish Centre.

The Sunday Club, which caters for children from 2-14, meets during term time on Sunday mornings at 10 am. There is also a holiday club for this age group usually at Easter.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides meet on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings in the Parish Centre - see the Calendar of Events for details.

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts meet on Monday and Friday evenings in the Parish Centre - see the Calendar of Events for details.

An annual pantomime is produced by St Matthew's Theatrical Society as well as other productions from time to time. See the Calendar of Events for more information.

Rooms in the Parish Centre are available for hire - please contact Tony Wrightson by phone on 01484 548610
