Building project

In 1878 St Leonard’s was rebuilt using predominantly local calcareous sandstone to replace the earlier church dating back to the thirteenth century and incorporating one of the original double perpendicular lancet windows and the bell dated 1793. Sadly, over time, the stonework had eroded badly and movement had caused the bell tower to lean and become so unstable that the architect  advised it should be dismantled as soon as possible. The dismantling and rebuilding of the bell turret together with the repair of the stonework to the west elevation, and refurbishing the mandorla window was successfully completed in October 2011.
