Seend: Holy Cross

Holy Cross is a wonderful stone built church nestling between Seend Manor and Seend House, set back from the main road through Seend opposite Rusty Lane.

Dating from around 1450 this beautiful Grade 1 church is steeped in local family history with many grand memorials. It has served the local community faithfully over the centuries and is much loved by the villagers. It is a symbol of stability and constancy to those who worship within its walls and those who come for weddings, baptisms and funerals. There is peace here and you sense the comfort that comes only through time, the goodness of prayer and the kindness of strangers. There are splendid views from the south churchyard over the vale towards Potterne, well worth spending a little time to enjoy.

Our church seats in excess of 200 people; has an outside toilet with disabled access; the church is accessible to wheelchair users via the south doors, with prior notice or on service days; we have a hearing loop system; there is limited parking in church lane, further parking in Rusty Lane or on main road alongside the Lye Field.

Things to look out for (there are QR codes around the church which link to more detailed information):-

•Original 1450 font restored in 1938

•Masons mark of the White Rose of York inscribed in the pulpit wall

•Stokys memorial in North aisle dated 1498

•Carved wool shears in West window stone arch

•The Millennium window

•1886 Sweetland of Bath organ, recently cleaned 2020

•Ring of six bells in Taylor frame – ground floor ring
