A place where spirituality is celebrated for every parishioner and visitor.

The church is usually open during the day, for quiet and reflection, and for historical interest.

Shereford church features the rare round tower construction, which are found mostly in Norfolk. This is thought to date back to pre-Norman Conquest, Saxon times, about a 1,000 years ago or more. Another church in the Upper Wensum benefice features a round tower, that of St Andrew, Ryburgh (see picture gallery).

Nearby St Peter, Dunton, has become redundant, though still consecrated, and now falls under the parish of Shereford. The miniscule hamlet of Doughton, between the two, reputedly once had its own medieval church beside the river. Nothing now remains on the site.

Revd Robin Stapleford became Rector of the Upper Wensum group in the summer of 2008. The churchmanship style in the benefice at large is central, with early morning said Prayer Book (trad) Communion, and mid-morning Common Worship Communion, sometimes Family Service, and usually no evening services. Hymns are usually selected from 'Hymns Old and New'.

An informal Morning Prayer is said each Friday at 9.30 am, rotating around the benefice as advertised, and at St Mary Colkirk every Saturday at 9 am, also providing opportunity to speak to the Rector without appointment. A 'Julian' (of Norwich) - silent, contemplative - prayer meeting is held at Colkirk Rectory about once per quarter as advertised.

Enquiries for weddings and christenings (baptism), or other special services, are welcome.

God bless you.

Revd Robin
