WELCOME TO THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST JOHN THE EVANGELIST
It is our joy to welcome you to St John’s Church page. St John's serves the parish of Spitalgate with Earlsfield in the south of Grantham. We are a welcoming, friendly and prayerful community where everyone is encouraged to respect one another and to recognise in each person someone who is loved by God.
At the heart of our parochial life is our worship. We believe that God is truly present in this His temple, and we seek to reverence that presence in our sacramental worship throughout the year with the utmost dignity, reverence, and in the beauty of holiness. Our worship is rooted in the rich tradition of the Church catholic, while also recognising that the life of the Church continues to speak to each generation. For this reason, we delight in the mixed economy of our liturgical life. At St John’s, you will find liturgies that draw both from ancient and modern forms, and which use both traditional and contemporary language.
Our church has experienced some turbulent times in recent years, but we now look forward with hope and confidence to a new beginning for St John’s and for the communities we serve. Therefore, we invite you to join us for worship, to share in the life of this church, and to contribute in whatever way you can. Your every contribution helps us to continue our ministry and enables this church to remain a place of worship, welcome and service to the local community.
With that spirit and in recent years, St John’s has discerned a renewed calling to care for creation by taking action on climate change and reducing food waste. This has found practical expression in the St John’s Community Fridge project which is now an important part of our commitment to climate action and care for our neighbours.
Together, we hope to build a church that is prayerful, inclusive, and rooted in community along with being a sacred space where worship, welcome and social action shape the heartbeat of our common life in Spitalgate and Earlsfield.
You are welcome here because you belong here. Therefore, come, worship with us, and help us build this community together.
