St. Michael in-the-Hamlet - The Cast Iron Church
(www.stmichaels-hamlet.org.uk)
St Michael in-the-Hamlet Church Toxteth Park, Liverpool is a grade one listed building supported by English Heritage. Built in 1815 it is known as the 'Cast Iron Church' because of its almost unique construction and its proximity to the Cast Iron Shore (now covered by landfill to create the extension of Otterspool Promenade along the banks of the Mersey). There is another iron church, St. George's in Everton, Liverpool - although this has less iron work and has a different outward appearance. It is an early example of pre-fabrication. Many modern buildings have a steel frame on which the building hangs. St. Michael's has a cast iron frame which supports the building in the same way.
The building was intended as a prototype for churches which could be easily erected on difficult terrain. It was intended that extensions could be added easily, as is the case with St. Michael.
We are an active church with good relationships with other Christian Denominations in the area. Whether you wish to come to worship, take time for private prayer or reflection or just wish to enjoy this wonderful heritage building we would love to see you.

Saturday
The Discovery Group was formed from the congregation to look for ways in which, together with our sister church, Christ Church, we could be of further service to our local community and to seek their views. As fewer people are regular churchgoers these days we want to make the community aware we are still active and are seeking to serve them. Every fourth Saturday we take a stall(vacancies permitting) at the Local Farmers Market with information about our churches and what we offer. We don't sell anything or try to raise funds - we want to say to the community "We are at your service - and it's free!"
Every fourth Saturday at 8:00 AM for 5 hours
