Cuthman Lecture
The next Cuthman Lecture will be on Wednesday 22nd October at 7.30pm in The Penfold Hall, Church Street, Steyning, BN44 3YB. The speaker will be Rev Alex Mabbs, URC Minister of Brighthelm Church and Community Centre, Brighton. His title will be: 'Faith in a Changing Climate: looking for treasure in the driftwood near a rising sea.'. Alex studied theology in Manchester, graduating in 1995. Since then he has been a United Reformed Church minister in south-west London (where he was also a chaplain in a psychiatric hospital) and in Hove and Portslade. In January this year, he began a new ministry at Brighthelm, a busy church and community centre that is seeking to bring together the three dimensions of church, community and sustainability. Alex writes an occasional, wide-ranging blog at mabbsonsea.wordpress.com. Climate change is a fact that few now deny. It is perhaps the greatest challenge that humanity faces. Alex Mabbs will examine the moral dimension of climate change, not so much to lay blame as to look for hope, with particular reference to the Christian tradition. In the light of the recent People's Climate Marches all round the world, the UN Climate Summit taking place as we speak and the forthcoming international climate negotiations in Lima this year and Paris in 2015, this is a timely opportunity for us to think about the moral and spiritual issues which will hopefully inspire us to respond in whatever way we can in our local community and beyond.

All Souls Day Service of Commendation
In order to mark the importance of All Souls Day when we remember before God all those whom we love and see no longer we shall hold an All Souls Service of Commendation on 2nd November at 4pm. This is the opportunity for those families and friends who have been bereaved to pray, hear scripture and be assured of God's bountiful and limitless grace. We shall mark each passing with the lighting of a candle and commend them to the Father. The Service will be followed by a light tea at 4.45pm
