This Anglican church was built in 1853 in traditional gothic style with a chancel, nave, south porch and a western belfrey containing one bell. Originally St John's had pews for 180 worshippers. In 1979 improvements included north and south transepts which increased seating to 300. The porch was turned into a Lady Chapel and the main entrance provided by a West door. Re-dedication by the Bishop of Salisbury George Reindorp), assisted by the Bishop of Ramsbury (John Neale), took place on the 22nd September 1979. St John's has a reputation for being a friendly and welcoming church and works hard at developing links with the community. It has a small Sunday School and hosts an Age Concern Day Care Centre (The Honeypot) for senior citizens.
The church is a member of the Trowbridge Community of Churches, and has close links with a nearby Baptist Church, local schools and College of Further Education, Studley Green Residents' Association and Manor Court sheltered accommodation.
Priest-in-Charge: Reverend Selina Deacon (Day off: Mondays)
Three Booklets on the History of the church and the Vicars of St John's are available at £1.50 each plus p&p. Proceeds to church funds. Apply to Malcolm Oliver: email Malcolm@OliverFamily.net
