Welcome to the Parish Church of St John.
We are a lively worshipping fellowship in the heart of the community of Walsall Wood. We would be delighted to welcome you.
Our church community reflects the great diversity of our local neighbourhood, and we are pleased to welcome all. We offer a range of worship activities which reflects a breadth of spiritulaity: from our family-friendly Sunday morning Holy Communion, where the children join us part way through; to the lively monthly Family Service, and on to a popular modern version of Evening Prayer, standing firmly in the Anglican liturgical and choral tradition.
In addition we hold a Communion Service on Wednesday mornings, where most weeks we are delighted to welcome around 45 children from St John's CE Primary School. At mid-day each Wednesday we hold a short act of worship where we pray for all for whom our prayers have been requested. St John's seeks to be an outward-facing church community, too. We have regular contact with our local primary schools (and an excellent close partnership with St John's Primary School); we have a thriving senior citizens' club - the "Young at Heart Club", a lively Baby & Toddler Group, and a popular weekly drop-in Coffee Morning. In addition have a busy Sunday School, a great children's group (ages 8 to 12) called "The Ark", and a Christian Young People's Fellowship - "The Point". Members of St John's are actively encouraged to take a full part in the life of the church, through involvement in worship, organising social and outreach activities, and membership of teams working to develop the church's mission and ministry.
St John's is blessed with a wonderful modern Community Hall, provided for us through the generosity of a local charitable trust. Many of our social events take place in the Hall, which is also used by a range of community groups and our Sunday School. The Hall is also available for Children's parties, Baptism parties, etc.
At the heart of Walsall Wood since 1837, our church has undergone many changes over the years but we are still pleased to welcome many families as they bring their children to be Christened, or to celebrate the joy of marriage. We also seek to offer pastoral support at the painful times of life, such as sickness or bereavement.

Sunday
Every Sunday at 8:00 AM for 40 minutes
St John's Sunday School meets every Sunday at 9.30 (except 2nd Sunday of the month). The children meet in appropriate age groups to learn about our faith and have fun together. The youngest group meets in the church meeting room and the older groups meet in St John's Community hall, adjacent to the church. They join the adult congregation about half way through the morning service, and are invited to tell us about their activities. All welcome.
Every first third fourth and fifth Sunday at 9:30 AM for ¾ hour
First and Third (and Fifth) Sundays. During school term time we have a lively Sunday School for children, who join us part way through the service. A Creche is also available.
Every first third and fifth Sunday at 9:30 AM for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Our Family Service takes place on the second Sunday of each month and is intended to be a genuine act of worship for all ages: for those with families, for our church family, and for the wider family of our community. Come alone; come with children; come with husbands, wives, mums and dads, grandmas and grandads, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, carers and pals. Everybody welcome.
We take a break during August. every second Sunday at 9:30 AM for ¾ hour
A modern service concentrating on the word of God and prayer. A little more structured than the Family Service but shorter than a full service of Holy Communion
Every fourth Sunday at 9:30 AM for 50 minutes
Evening Prayer on 1st, 3rd, 4th (& 5th) Sundays. Sung Eucharist on 2nd Sunday.
Every Sunday at 6:30 PM for 1 hour
Monday
Open to all mums,dads,carers with babies and tots. Just come along to the Community Hall behind St John's Church.
Every Monday at 9:30 AM for 1½ hours
Weekly (Term Time) every Monday at 7:00 PM for 1½ hours
Tuesday
Walsall Wood's WI meets in St John's Community Hall, behind the church, on 2nd Tuesday of every month. All welcome.
Every second Tuesday at 1:30 PM for 1½ hours
Brownies will meet every Tuesday at 6 pm. To find out more, just turn up.
Term time only. every Tuesday at 5:45 PM for 1½ hours
Our local photographic society. Always keen to see new members. We meet in the Community Hall
Weekly (not August) every Tuesday at 8:00 PM for 2 hours
Wednesday
During term time we are normally joined by Yrs 5 and 6 of St John's Primary School
Every Wednesday at 10:15 AM for ¾ hour
We meet to specifically pray for all for whom our prayers have been requested - for all who are sick or suffering in any way.
Every Wednesday at 12:00 PM for ½ hour
Uniformed Group
Weekly (Term Time) every Wednesday at 5:15 PM for 1 hour
Our Children's Choir meets each Wednesday to rehears the songs we will use at our monthly family service. We have some fun and refreshments along the way. Children should be 8 years or older. Enthusiastic children always welcome.
Weekly (Term Time) every Wednesday at 6:00 PM for ¾ hour
Our slimming club meets in the Community Hall
Every Wednesday at 7:00 PM for 1½ hours
Our RSCM Choir meets to rehearse for Sunday Services and other events
Every Wednesday at 7:30 PM for 1½ hours
Thursday
Drop in for tea,coffee and a chat at the Community Hall
Every Thursday at 10:00 AM for 1½ hours
A quiet service of Holy Communion offering a short time of worship and prayer in the midst of a busy week day. All Welcome.
Thursday at 12:30 PM for ½ hour
Meeting every Thursday at 2 pm. Our senior citizens club is for fun and friendship. Come along and see. You are very welcome.
Every Thursday at 2:00 PM for 2 hours
Weekly (Term Time) every Thursday at 7:00 PM for 1 hour
The Point is our Christian Young People's Fellowship for those aged 13 and above. We meet every thursday, usually (but not always) in the church meeting room for a whole range of activities. Contact us for details.
