All Saints’ Waterden, the other church in the parish of South Creake, is generally referred to as the daughter church or, more simply, just as Waterden. Strictly speaking it is a Chapel of Ease in the Parish of South Creake.

A mile or so south east of the village it is a relict of the lost mediaeval village of Waterden and stands alone in the fields accompanied only by its Old Vicarage (a Victorian building larger than the church itself). Waterden has no electrical supply but, though a building whose original Anglo-Saxon architectural features are clearly visible, is in sound structural condition.

With generous support from the Norfolk Churches Trust and from the church’s patron the Earl of Leicester (via the Holkham Estate), the roof was completely refurbished in 2005 and at the end of 2010 the pew platform and box pews were repaired.

Evensong is celebrated at Waterden on the fourth Sunday of the month from April (once the light is good enough) through to, and including, September.  A Christmas Carol Service by Candlelight also takes places at Waterden on Christmas Eve at 4.00 pm. The church is filled to overflowing for this popular event. The Norfolk Churches website is again a good place to get a feel for the character of Waterden church.
