St George’s is a Church of England parish church which serves the local community of Westcombe Park and Charlton. We are located at the corner of Glenluce Road and Kirkside Road (close to Westcombe Hill), a short distance from Westcombe Park railway station, and close to the Kirkside Road bus stop.
Our worship style reflects the Central Church tradition, and includes both Protestant and Catholic elements, using text from Common Worship. We have a pipe organ, a volunteer choir and a youth band, and we like to sing a mixture of traditional Anglican and contemporary hymns and songs. St George's is part of the East Greenwich Team Ministry, which also includes Christ Church, East Greenwich and Holy Trinity, Greenwich Peninsula.
We believe in inclusive Church - church which does not discriminate, on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race or sexuality. We believe in Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.
Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday morning at 11:00 am. The service on the first Sunday of the month is usually an All Age service, designed to help adults and children worship together.
Children's Church is offered every Sunday at 11:00 am for children age 3 and above. We use materials from Godly Play and Lesson Plans That Work. There is a creche for younger children adjoining the worship space in the nave.
Morning prayer is offered every Wednesday at 8:30 am. Soup Lunch Fellowship meets at 12:30 pm on Wednesdays.
We offer a variety of courses for exploring our spirituality, including the 2017 Lenten Course entitled "Dethroning Mammon". It meets for six weekly sessions beginning on Thursday, 2nd of March at 7:30 pm at the vicarage, 89 Westcombe Park Road SE3 7RZ. Upcoming courses will include: "Outstanding Women of the Bible" and "An In-depth Study of the Gospel of Luke". See the website for details.
St George's believes in loving service to the community, and on Tuesday nights from January to March we are a venue of the Greenwich Winter Night Shelter, offering safe lodging, good food and fellowship to homeless people in our community.
Spiritual Film Night offers thoughtful and inspirational movies on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm.
