Church of the Holy Rood, Woodeaton - Roof and Restoration Appeal
I am writing to appeal, on behalf of the Parochial Church Council, for assistance in the funding of a new roof for the Church of the Holy Rood.
The Church dates from approximately 1250 and has seen little alteration over the centuries. It is Grade I listed, reflecting its importance as an historic building.
For some time, the roof has been leaking, jeopardising not only the roof timbers but in time, all the wonderful ancient oak pews and fitments and the medieval wall painting depicting St. Christopher and the Christ child, which is possibly one of the oldest surviving examples of this subject. Sadly, the pace of deterioration has recently increased and we need to take action now to both reduce the impact and eventual cost of the repair and restoration works.
The church continues to be used for the purpose for which it was built, and is well supported. There are currently two services per month and we manage through church collections and other fund raising activities to ensure the Church remains active.
We now face the challenge of raising approximately £50,000 for a new roof and other additional essential repairs. We hope to be successful in securing grants and awards from a number of bodies such as English Heritage and this, together with money which has already been raised, means the local fundraising team will have the task of raising in the region of £25,000.
We are, therefore, appealing to anyone who has valued or continues to value the Church of the Holy Rood to help us. If you, or anyone you know, are able to help then we would be very grateful. If you do feel able to make a donation this may be undertaken in a number of ways;
By cheque to the address below made payable to The Church of the Holy Rood or by Direct Bank Transfer (see gift aid form).
Should you have any further request for information then please contact the Church Warden by post at the address below or by email to jojogood@btinternet.com .
All donations will be acknowledged.
With many thanks
