St. Peter’s is the welcoming Anglican Church for Woolhampton Parish. There has been a Church on the site since the 13th Century. By the 19th Century the Church was in a very dilapidated state and James Blyth, the squire, had it restored in its present Gothic style by John Johnson of London in 1861. It is built in local Berkshire style, in dressed flint, with timbered bell cot and porch.
We have a service every Sunday and they follow a regular pattern. There are a variety of services to suit all tastes and everyone is welcome. On the 1st and 2nd Sundays we have Morning Praise and a Family Service respectively. On the 3rd Sunday we celebrate Holy Communion, and the 4th Sunday is Family Communion. Services begin at 11:00 am. Services on the 5th Sunday rotate around the Benefice, and details are shown in the calendar. We also have two joint services with Elstree School each term and these are shown on the calendar.
This pattern may change on special occasions such as Christmas and Easter. Changes will be shown in the services and events and the calendar sections of this site and also on the Church notice board and in the parish magazine. Everyone is welcome for coffee after services.
Children are very welcome at every service. However please note that there are no specific facilities for children such as a creche or play area.
The Benefice service on Sunday January 29th will be at Woolhampton. It will be a Communion service beginng at 10:00 am.
Service for Ash Wednesday. There will be a service of Holy Communion with imposition of ashes on Wednesday 22nd February at Wasing church starting at 7:00 pm.
St. Peter's is one of six churches in the Benefice of Aldermaston and Woolhampton. For information about the Benefice, including who's who in the ministry team, Benefice news, services in our other churches, and events and activities, please click here:
Church extension - locking of the Church
During January work will begin on an extension to provide a toilet, a small kitchenette and a larger outer vestry. We expect the work to continue until June. During this time it will unfortunately be necessary for the church to be kept locked. We regret the necessity for this, but anyone needing access in the meantime may contact one of the churchwardens. For futher information about the extension click on "Church extension" in the "News" section in the panel on the right.
Friday morning prayer - "on tour": we gather for half an hour at 8:00 a.m. every Friday to read the bible (the readings for the coming Sunday), say a psalm and pray for the Church, the world, those in need, our local churches and communities.... The service has always been at Woolhampton in the past but the building work is forcing us out so we are moving round the benefice. Services in January will be at Brimpton, February at Midgham and future months to be announced. We would love more people to join us: do come along!
