The wild community at St Botolph's

 

Churchyards can be a real haven for animal wildlife. A recent brief survey found:


Birds:

Blackbirds

Blue Tits

Great Tits

Long Tailed Tits

Magpies

Robins

Hedge Sparrows

Pied Wagtails

Sparrowhawk - a fleeting visit.

Jackdaws.

Bullfinches.

Chaffinches.

Chiff-Chaff.

Green Woodpecker.

Evidence of mammals:

Fox dropping.

Rabbits.

Deer of various types.

Grey squirrels.

Mice.

A variety of bats within the Church.


Lichens

These curious mixture of algae and fungi are always plentiful on the graves, ,masonry and even roofs of country churches. They can form a rich source of ideas for projects right up to degree level.
