DESCRIPTION:he annual performance of one of J S Bach’s great Passion set
tings has been an annual feature of Hereford Cathedral’s musical calenda
r since 2002\, and Bach’s exquisite and unparalleled music perfectly exp
resses the profound and emotional atmosphere of Holy Week.\n\nThis year th
e cathedral choir will present the St John Passion\, the shorter and more
immediately dramatic of the two settings\, accompanied by Marches Baroque\
; the soloists will be led by Ruairi Bowen as the Evangelist.\n\nPeter Dyk
e will conduct this work for the first time at Hereford\, during the inter
regnum following the retirement of Geraint Bowen.\n\nHe said ‘The St Joh
n Passion is a very special work for me. It’s the first great choral wor
 k I got to know as a singer\, as an 11-year-old treble. I remember being c
aptivated by Bach’s beautifully expressive chorale harmonies and the dra
ma of the opening chorus. I’m hugely looking forward to it!’\n\nThe St
John Passion will take place on Tuesday 31 March at 7.30 pm.\n\n\nTickets
are available in the Front Nave (which includes the front and mid section
of the nave) and the Rear Nave. Tickets cost £25 and £18 respectively.\
