Tenebrae comes from the Latin word for shadows and dates back to the fourth century. The purpose of the service is to hold before us the betrayal, loneliness and pain of Jesus’ last hours. The service ends with Jesus’ words from the cross ‘it is finished’ but Christians believe the story continues on Easter Monday. During the service, seven candles are extinguished and the service ends in darkness.
The service will be available on our YouTube channel from 8:00pm on Maundy Thursday and will be available at anytime after that.
