It may be a bit tricky during lockdown, given the difficulties of getting shopping in, but anyone who would like to do a good deed for Advent might like to put together a Christmas shoebox for a child in need. The idea is to fill a shoebox with small gifts suitable for a child in a given age group who otherwise would not receive any Christmas presents - and many have never done so.
The international scheme has been run for many years by Samaritan's Purse as Operation Christmas Child which sends the boxes to many deprived parts of the world. Filled boxes can be sent direct to Samaritan's Purse, or delivered to Poyner's the draper in Broad Street by the end of November. If you cannot find a suitable box, Poyner's may well be able to supply one.
