Lockdown 3: Services in the Benefice

7 Jan 2021, 12:45 p.m.

As you will be aware the Government have, during this 3rd lockdown allowed Churches to remain open and the decision about whether or not to do so has been left to the Incumbent and Church Wardens. Having consulted widely on this issue and wanting to balance the needs of people for services with the real risk of rapidly rising cases I have decided to keep the 3 Churches that have been open for services, Ashford Bowdler, Ashford Carbonel and Ludford open but with a reduced number of services, details of which are in your pew sheet. I have also decided that whilst we are in this lockdown we will not be offering Holy Communion services. I know that these decisions will be disappointing to some people but I hope you will understand that they have been taken after a lot of prayer, thought and consultation and out of a desire to mitigate risk.

You will also be aware that the Government has asked people who were told to shield in the first lockdown to also shield this time, so if this applies to you please do not attend services, and if in fact you are at all anxious about attending a service then please don't as everybody will understand that. We will continue to send out Morning Prayer by e-mail each week and we are currently looking at the possibility of a zoom or recorded service as well. Nick will offer a zoom service this Sunday. I have decided that our recorded services should be at 10.30am as this falls between our two service times.

Please do ensure that if you are intending to attend a service that you let your Church Warden know so that should anything change they will be able to contact you.

With my love and prayers,
