DESCRIPTION:Our All Souls Day service this year will be marked by a specia
 l act of remembrance as we will also re-inter the remains of someone who w
 as originally buried at St Peter’s over 500 years ago.\n\nDuring the ear
 ly stages of the building work here last year\, human remains were discove
 red in the churchyard. Not unusual perhaps but these were buried at less t
 han 1 metre deep. The appropriate authorities were advised and the archaeo
 logist on site during the work excavated the remains\, finding more or les
 s a whole skeleton. He advised that the absence of any coffin goods sugges
 ted a wrapped burial. This\, together with the relatively shallow depth in
 dicated a burial during the late mediaeval era\, so pre-1500.\n\nWe know l
 ittle of the person themselves\, other than that they were male and a youn
 g adult at the time of death.\n\nThe earliest date for the grave monuments
  in the churchyard is 17th C so this discovery is a timely reminder that t
 he church and its churchyard have a much older history.\n\nAfter the servi
 ce we will go into the churchyard and re-inter the remains\, holding a sho
 rt burial service.\n\nAll are welcome to join ius for the service and at t
 he graveside.
