St. Edmund, Egleton in Rutland is a Grade 1 listed Church noted particularly for its Norman carvings and in particular its fine tympanum over the entrance doorway. In January 2022 Historic England placed St Edmunds on the At Risk register mainly because of its problems with damp and the very urgent need to replace the Chancel Roof where the lead dated 1842 is well past its life span and the gradual penetration of water is affecting the beams and internal plaster-work.

The Church has already raised over £15,000 for external masonry repairs completed in 2021 to reduce damp. A further £5,000 has been raised to make repairs to the Nave ceiling to further preserve the fabric and save young bats from falling to the floor of the church – completed in November 2022. It now faces a challenge of raising £60,000 for the replacement of the Chancel Roof which, as it is out of sight, will be in Terne-coated Stainless Steel. For a village of 41 houses this is quite a challenge and your help will be vital in achieving our target and preserving this valuable heritage for all to experience and enjoy.
