Hi! We are raising money to restore our village clock, which has not been going since November. The village raised the money to place it in the church tower to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. After 123 years of timekeeping, it has come to a stop, and now needs to be removed to a workshop for restoration, at a cost of £6300. It would be great to have it going in time for our own Queen's forthcoming Jubilee next year.
We are planning an on-line Crowdfunding page [porlock-jubilee-clock], going live on May 1st. This will allow on-line donations, and we hope it will reach a wide audience. If you are local, you don't need to wait for that, as cheques can be put in the oak chest by the font in church. If you do that, please use the gift-aid envelopes marked "clock", in a box by the chest. That way we know what the money is for, and also can claim back 25% from HMRC.
We are hoping to get grants for some of the money, but those are not certain yet. If we were lucky enough to get more money than we need, then we would use the surplus for regular servicing of the clock, additional dust protection, and anything else which might arise connected with preservation of the clock.
The crowdfunding page will go live at noon on 1st May and can be found on this web address:
If you want to donate by cheque, please make it out to PCC of Porlock & Stoke Pero. Then put it in the wooden chest by the font in church, in an envelope marked "clock", so we know what it's for. Ideally use [and fill in] the pink gift-aid envelopes, which are in a box by the chest. Then we can claim the tax back.
