Following a good number of updates from the Diocese with ever changing dates quoted for re-opening the Church, the Churchwardens have discussed the matter following receipt of the latest guidance notes dated w/e 13th June 2020.
In the first instance, and before re-opening, a Risk Accessment has to be carried out to ascertain and consider the risks, especially to volunteers, particularly those aged over 70.
It is clear that any re-opening of our church has to be supervised, although the Diocese are still awaiting clarification from Government on the use of the word “supervision”. Therefore, the Churchwardens have agreed that a limited period of 2 hours on a Wednesday (between 2 and 4 pm) and Sunday morning (between 10.00 and 12.00) will be put in place. The start date will be the 24th June and 28th June, and each week thereafter, for Private Prayer.
Social Distancing and regulating access is paramount, therefore a maximum of 10 persons will be allowed in the church at any one time, and there will be separate entry and exit points. Also we need to allow 72 hours between periods of opening, otherwise we have to carry out a deep clean every evening, this of course is something no one can entertain.
Hopefully, everyone can accept these tentative first steps, and I will personally engage with those who have offered to act as Supervisors once the re-opening starts on Wednesday 24th June.
