Every year we must carry out a safety inspection of the headstones in our graveyard. This inspection was completed on the 21st March following a period of 28 days notice.
A number of headstones were found to be so loose as to constitute a potential danger should they topple over with little force being applied. These gravestones have been carefully laid flat and a notice attached to them asking for the family or relatives of the deceased to contact us to arrange for the headstones to be erected safely again.
A number of other headstones were loose but not so loose as to be dangerous at this stage. These headstones also have notices attached.
The church is responsible for health & safety in its churchyard but it is not responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the graves or headstones - this is the responsibility of the family or relatives of the deceased.
Should anyone wish to make contact with the church about these actions, please would you telephone Simon Parker on 07397 232933.
