Director of Music David Thornton hosts the weekly choir practice on Zoom, preparing a programme of hymns and anthems to rehearse. It soon became clear that singing together would not work unless all the participants except David himself were muted. We sing along to David's accompaniment on the piano assisted by his wife Janet, a soprano in the choir, who can be heard in the background.
The social interaction is important too, and there is laughter (oops! dropped my phone! Why have you got a light bulb coming out of your head? No, you haven't muted us yet.... and so on)
Twelve choir members have taken part, though one or two cannot always join in because of technical difficulties. A few choir members have no internet access but one has a hymn book at home so she can continue to sing and other choir members keep in touch by telephone.
