Church of England Diocese of Blackburn St. John Little Thornton

Worship Services Are Paused

9 Jan 2021, 5:15 p.m.
Dear Friends

You may have seen the recent local news regarding the letter that has been issued by the Lancashire Directors of Public Health. This is an extract of the letter with the key message;

As Directors of Public Health representing Lancashire, we are strongly advising all faith communities to pause communal prayer and worship during the lockdown period, to reduce the possible spread of the new Covid variant.

We recognise that this is a big request, but it will help to protect our communities at this critical stage of the pandemic.

After consultation with the Churchwardens and the Parochial Church Council, we have taken the decision that in the interests of safety, we should follow the strong advice given to pause communal worship at St John's Little Thornton with immediate effect.

Until further notice, there will be no communal worship services held at St John's.

This decision has not been taken lightly, but after consideration of the facts about the increase in infection rates and with everyone's safety in mind.

We look forward to the time when we are beyond this difficult period and we can come together again for public worship.

I continue to hold you and all the parish in prayer.

With every blessing

Rev Jane

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy
in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support the anxious and fearful,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may rejoice in your comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.
