It's with a heavy heart that I have to let you know that our dear friend and brother Father Jack House died this afternoon. As most of you know he had been ill for some time with heart disease and liver cancer. He suffered heart failure at home late this morning and the air ambulance took him to the BRI where he later died.
I was contacted by the ambulance crew and went in and sat with Rosemary in the waiting room until the consultant gave us the awful news. By that time Jack's sister Jo had arrived and the three of us went to see him and said prayers commending him into God's loving arms.
I last saw Jack on Wednesday at his home. He was clearly not well but was his usual cheerful and positive self. I gave him Holy Communion and anointed him.
We all have our own memories of Jack and I know many of you will be saying prayers for him after you have read this. Priest's of Jack's tradition will no doubt offer a requiem mass for the repose of his soul.
As soon as I have any more information about his funeral I will be in touch again.
Rest eternal grant unto him o Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him
and as Jack always said for others:
May he rest in peace and rise in glory
