Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
An invitation to fellowship and worship
Most of you are aware of the intention to reopen our churches for worship on Sunday 6th September 2020. The Wardens and I have been working to make this not only possible but as safe as can be reasonably expected in the circumstances. We have tried to make it as simple as possible giving due consideration to safe distance and contamination by touch and exhalation.
The services and the pattern of services will be familiar, as we are going to keep as close as possible to what people know and expect. We cannot, as yet, sing but the choir can. We cannot share Holy Communion as we used to, but a considered alternative will be shared. Expect things to change (hopefully ease) as guidelines are updated.
BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL
As per the Government and Bishop Rose’s directives, anyone attending will be required to book in advance. We are required to keep details of all those who attend for twenty-one days in the unlikely event that someone associated with the church contracts Covid-19. You can book your place by email or telephone with either Christine Clover or myself:
Rev Barry – 01303 883243 [email protected]
Christine – 0300 030 1662 [email protected]
We are determined to accommodate all who wish to attend. Therefore, we require to know how many people there are in your group or bubble. This will allow us to maximise the number of people we can accommodate. Please leave a message if we do not answer and we will contact you to confirm.
FACE COVERINGS ARE MANDATORY
On the day please arrive in plenty of time and be prepared to queue. Everyone entering the church will be required to wear a mask and to sanitise their hands. We will have people there to assist you. You will be allocated a service book that we wish you to keep and bring with you each week. Please do not share books and take very good care of them to prevent contamination. Having entered, someone will guide you to a seat. Further directions will come from those leading the service.
As many of us are vulnerable by age, I ask that those who cannot wear a mask or face shield do not attend. The risk is simply too high and if someone is reported as having contracted the virus, we will have to close the church and go into isolation. Careful consideration has been given to our processes and we will all be safe if we follow the guidance. Such guidance will be under continuous review ensuring the safety of all.
If you are considering returning, please be encouraged to do so. I appreciate that this all sounds very harsh, but we are dealing with a very serious issue and people’s safety is paramount. I appreciate that some of you will be waiting until restrictions are eased further or that you will want to rely on trusted friends to report on how we are conducting services safely. That is quite understandable, and we look to welcoming you back when you feel ready.
Yours in Christ,
