DESCRIPTION:!0th May 2026 is Rogation Day. There will be a blessing by the
  Rector outside Throwley Church at about 3:30 pm.\n\nThe Rector writes:\n\
 n“In the month of May\, the church has some important celebrations. Roga
 tion\, Ascension\, Pentecost and Trinity. They don’t always all fall in 
 the same month\, but this year they do. The last three are all a fixtures 
 in our church calendar\, but Rogation is often overlooked. \n\nRogation wa
 s traditionally marked by the Beating-the-Bounds\, which was an ancient cu
 stom of marking and remembering the boundaries of our villages\; those bou
 ndaries often defined by significant trees or boundary stones. This took t
 he form of a procession around the Parish boundary\, usually led by the Vi
 car\, armed with sticks with which to beat the boundary markers. \n\nThe C
 hristian element of this\, other than the vicar in attendance\, was the bl
 essing of the land and praying for the protection of the crops. \n\nThe na
 me ‘Rogation’ comes from the Latin ‘rogare’\, to ask or to plead. 
 Beating-the-bounds of the ten parishes might be a bit much for me and the 
 Benefice team\, however on the 10th May I will be travelling to each churc
 h to pray a blessing on the land. Pray with me that new life will come int
 o land and that Jesus will come into our lives afresh.  Amen\n\nI will not
  need to go into your churches\, just outside will be fine and more fittin
 g.\nI will pray then move on - feel free to join me if you would like to\,
  though I am not expecting you to turn out for such a short time of prayer
  and blessing.\n\nI attach a rough schedule of timings\, but please do mes
