Daily Scripture:

“A soft answer turns away wrath,

but a harsh word stirs up anger.”  (Proverbs 15:1)

Daily Reflection:

More wise words from Solomon - in the book of Proverbs. We all know it to be true: if we answer someone – just because we disagree with them – in a harsh way, it escalates the situation. “Harsh words stir up anger”, because the other person then responds to our harshness, and the situation becomes more and more angry. And afterwards, once we’ve calmed down, we can rationally think, “How on earth did it get to that situation?”

It is very hard to argue with someone who has the self-control to insist on answering you gently……but then a discussion can take place, not an argument; and then things can be resolved and move forward. We all know it…..so why do we often fall into using “harsh words”?

To seek peace and resolution: choose gentle words today.
