2020 is the 850th anniversary of the martyrdom of St Thomas a Becket, and the 800th anniversary of the translation of his relics to Canterbury, which made Canterbury one of foremost destinations for pilgrims in Europe in medieval times.
The plan is to walk from St Thomas a Becket's, Farlam, to St Thomas the Martyr's in Newcastle (built according to tradition on the site of a chapel founded as a penance by Sir Hugh de Morville, one of the knights who murdered the Archbishop). I will be inviting people to sponsor me, giving either to Farlam Parish Church or to our Youth Work based in Brampton. However the November lockdown and the North-East going into Tier 3 from 2nd December, mean that, unfortunately, the walk will have to postponed until early next year. I intend to do it asap once the Newcastle and Northumberland come out of Tier 3. Watch this space for further info!
