DESCRIPTION:From earliest times Christians have gathered through the night
  of Easter to recall the story of God’s saving work\, from creation thro
 ugh to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The Easter Vi
 gil marks the end of the emptiness of Holy Saturday\, and leads into the c
 elebration of Christ’s resurrection. \n\nThe service begins in darkness\
 , with scripture readings telling the story of mankind's relationship with
  God.\n\nThen a bonfire is lit and the New Light declared\, marking our pa
 ssage from darkness to light\, through Jesus Christ.  The Exsultet is sung
 \, an ancient hymn of triumph and rejoicing\, which links this night of ou
 r Christian redemption to the Passover night of Israel’s redemption out 
 of Egypt.\n\nThen Jesus's resurrection is proclaimed\, all the lights of t
 he church will be lit\, and joyful music sung\, followed by a Holy Communi
 on service. \n\nFeaturing fire\, candlelight\, and music sung by our robed
  choir\, this is a very special and haunting service\, and a wonderful way
  to start Easter celebrations.
